So…….It’s been over a year since Sophie has graced the page of this website. I’m not sure if there’s even too many people that even check this site anymore but I’m gonna try to get the word out that I’m back. Just when I thought Kitty Litter was a thing of the past I sat down on my sofa one night and wrote 8 to 9 episodes. There will be no schedule, I’m not gonna promise when there will be another strip. I am a dad now and that consumes 90% of my free time. Then another 8% for my band and the remaining 2% is left for going to the bathroom and working on comics. So here’s to year with more than one comic.

Here’s another phone comic. Everything but the lettering was done on my I phone and honestly, I’m amazed I was able to get that done on my computer. The baby pretty much sleeps through the night now though so maybe I’ll have more time to work while I’m at home.

I’m not dead. I’ve been very busy with the baby and band stuff and work. I have had time though to get an i phone and learn how to draw on it. Since the downtime I have at home is now taken up by watching a two month old I now draw my comics mostly at work during my downtime. This was done completely using my phone, all I did was resize it a bit in photoshop. I’ve got more that I’ll be posting. The truth is I generally don’t even have time to get on the site here just to update even if I have something done. If you have a facebook account search me out. I really could have put any date on this strip, but I’m pretty sure that day was especially full of dirty diapers. I think I’ve got some more of these strips up my sleeve. We’ll see if I can get some more posted soon. Later, Ryan H.

It seems that anytime I’m unable to complete stories I fall back on my Chronicles of Today strips. Looking back at the others I’ve done it always seems like it ends up around the fall too. I always intend on keeping it going and I always get side tracked. Not that Kitty Litter is too different in that department either. I’ve always really enjoyed doing these though. It’s an immediate gratification getting a strip done because there’s no continuing story. Which is also one of the kicks I get from doing music. I write a song, maybe record it and it’s done. End of story. I’m adjusting to our new routine here of having a baby and what not. Part of this strip was drawn while holding the baby in fact. I’ve got another one of these “Today” strips done which I’ll post here in a few days. I’ve been off at work all week so I’ve been able to get some creative stuff done. Well, my life changed forever on Tuesday 8-18-09. My daughter Audrey was born. It was by far the most intense/wonderful moments of my life. The past few days have been a blur of family coming into town, late night feedings, lack of sleep and poop…lots of poop. Needless to say comics will be as sparce as usual. According to my chinese zodiac one of my faults is laziness so what are you gonna do. I’ve got a new design for a tshirt I’d like to see the light of day. I’ll probably be posting that here soon for pre-order. So be on the look out. Till then I’m off to change another diaper.

So I’ve kinda dropped off the face of the planet when it comes to the comic. I apologize. Point blank, my wife is weeks away (at the most) from giving birth and we’ve been busting our asses off getting the house ready for the baby. We’re pretty much done, I say pretty much because I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to be completely done when it comes to something like this. Needless to say between work, gigs and getting ready for the baby the comic has taken a serious back seat. Because of this I’ve gravitated more torwards focusing on music as of late. It’s more of an instant gratification when it comes to creativity and not as labor intensive. They’ll be back I’m sure but I’m not gonna set a date by any means. If I have a chance to do anything creative though, it will end up on this site. Which brings me to all the songs we posted below and on our new “music” tab up at the top. My wife was working this morning and I was at home by myself and instead of doing something some what productive I recorded a bunch of songs. Let me start off by saying these are rough. Let me rephrase that: These are EXTREMELY rough. Rough like a gravel driveway with broken beer botels strewn across it and on those broken shards of glass you’ll find sandpaper superglued to them. It’s just electric guitar and vocals. You can hear my cats, the washer, dryer, cars going by all in the background. I think I even answer the phone at the end of one. I’ve never been picky when it comes to the sound of my music and I’ve always like to work fast, but I’ve never done something like this. It seemed like the thing to do at the time though and I’m kinda proud of it for some reason. I tried to play a bunch of songs that most people probably haven’t heard or I haven’t released. A few of these I don’t think I had played in a couple years and one of them I wrote today (that would be “I Got a Tick”, listen to it and you won’t be so impressed with me writing and recording a song in one day). We had every intention of having a full proper album out by now but personal issues with the rest of the band have held us up. So until we get back into the “studio” here’s the new Modrats album “Sunday Morning”:

Well, it’s been two weeks since I’ve gotten something up here. So here you go. We’ve been very busy getting ready for the baby. We’re getting down to the wire so comic time has been kinda sparce. I’m gonna try to get some work done on it this week but I’ve got two gigs this week and flyers to draw for those so who knows. I hope you guys are happy to see Sophie’s face up here again atleast it felt good to draw her again.

Creativity is a funny thing. One minute you’re debating ever doing your comic again and the next you’re hit with the strong urge to draw a zombie epic. This is a story I’ve had for a long time, something like 7 years or so. Atleast the first little bit I’ve had for a long time. It’s morphed and grown a bit over time and it’s finally going to see the light of day as…a Kitty Litter story. Yeah, Sophie and everyone will be in the next episode. Like I said, it’s funny how creativity works. But I feel very compelled to do this story. I don’t know when the next page will be up. I’m putting a lot of time into every page. Hopefully later this week.

The more into summer we get the more I feel like this. Just a slimy, gross blob. Summer is by far my least favorite season. It sort of looses its appeal once you’re out of school. That said, I do love summer nights. It’s the only time that the temperature is just right. It’s also great for a good old fashioned lightsaber fights, which we sometimes stage out in our back yard. The neighbors love it. I should have an actual comic up sometime later in the week. For now though, I’m off to play Ninja Gaiden 2.
